Many Americans have a strong desire to adopt children and due to incredibly expensive, complicated domestic adoptions many of these same Americans look elsewhere when it comes to child adoption.

One popular place that Americans commonly partake in international child adoption is the country of Russia. Last year there were 1,800 adoptions of Russian children by American parents. However, one woman's unthinkable actions may lead to a halt in international child adoption through Russia for many.

The woman in question sent her 8-year-old adopted son back to Moscow alone on a plane last month when she suddenly decided she didn't want to be a parent anymore. This woman's actions have led to an international incident between the US and Russia.

Despite requests by Washington to not judge all American parents who are interested in child adoption by this one woman's terrible actions, Russian officials have froze many international adoptions that were in progress. The future is yet to be decided for these frozen child adoptions.
