US Suspends Nepal Child Adoption

US Suspends Nepal Child Adoption

Earlier this month, the US Government suspended the adoption of abandoned children from Nepal.

Though the said suspension took effect immediately, the State Department said that it will continue to consider pending adoption application on a case-by-case basis.

The main reason for the said suspension are concerns about unreliable and fabricated documents. The State Department said: Because of the unreliable documents and "the general situation of noncooperation with and even active hindrance of investigations," U.S. authorities can no longer accurately determine whether a child qualifies as an orphan.

There is always abuse when international adoptions are concerned. Then, with a suspension on international adoption like this one, legit orphans are being prevented from being adopted in the US for example.
